Data Management Internship
Location: Narok County (Maasai Mara – The Maa Trust Headquarters)
Employment Type: Internship (Full-time)
Duration: One Year (June 2026 – May 2027)
Reports To: MEAL and Grants Manager
Job Purpose
The Data Management Intern will support the MEAL Department in strengthening The Maa Trust’s data systems, ensuring quality data collection, entry, cleaning, storage, analysis, and visualization aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.
The role involves collaborating with internal teams to address community challenges in the Maasai Mara landscape, ensuring quality programme implementation and achieving evidence-based outcomes and impact.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Data Collection & Management
- Assist in updating data collection tools and templates (e.g., Excel trackers, KoboToolbox).
- Support field data collection (surveys, FGDs, KIIs) using digital tools.
- Clean, code, validate, and enter data into databases (Excel or SQL).
- Upload field data into central databases.
- Organize and archive physical and digital data records for easy retrieval.
- Assist in planning and executing Community Engagement Forums.
2. Analysis & Visualization
- Analyze quantitative and qualitative data using Excel, Power BI, or Stata.
- Create dashboards and infographics for reporting using Power BI and Microsoft SQL.
- Support design and maintenance of dashboards and visualization tools.
- Contribute to monthly, quarterly, annual, and donor reports through data aggregation and analysis.
3. System Improvement
- Identify and troubleshoot data quality issues.
- Support routine and ad hoc data quality checks and verification processes.
- Propose improvements to data storage and management systems.
- Participate in DMEAL trainings on tools and best practices.
- Provide logistical and documentation support during trainings and field exercises.
- Ensure data security and confidentiality protocols are followed.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the MEAL and Grants Manager.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Public Health, Social Sciences, Computer Science, or related field.
- Recent graduate (within the last two years).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (required).
- Knowledge of data analysis/visualization tools (Power BI, SPSS, Stata, R) is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with mobile data collection tools (SurveyCTO, ODK, KoboToolbox).
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Kiswahili and Maa are an added advantage).
- Passion for community development, conservation, and social impact.
- Experience with GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS) or SQL databases is an added advantage.
- Detail-oriented individual seeking practical experience in data management for social impact programs.
