Driver – EMT
Job Objective/ Purpose:
Manage and operate ambulance/ vehicles to provide safe, reliable and efficient transport services to Avenue’s clients and staff in a timely, professional and compassionate manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ambulance Maintenance:
- Ensuring the ambulance is kept clean and secure at all times, no unauthorized passengers.
- Checking the vehicle daily to ensure that all systems – lights, brakes, horn, siren, tyres, signaling etc. are in good working condition and reporting problems / malfunctions immediately.
- Checking and verifying that the engine oil, battery, brake fluid and fuel levels are adequate.
- Ensuring that the vehicle is properly maintained and stocked with spare tyre, spanner, emergency triangle, first aid box etc.
- Updates and properly maintains the driver’s log book – mileage, record of trips and accounts for fuel consumption
- Checking and notifying the Manager at least two weeks ahead of expiry of license and insurance.
- Immediately reporting any incidents including delays, mechanical problems; accidents etc… – and taking appropriate action to rectify or solve the problem
- Ensure the ambulance is well stocked with required medical items, documents and consumables, and all equipment are in good condition.
- Assist with managing the dispatch desk – scheduling vehicles efficiently, booking & allocating drivers and vehicles to various transport needs and requests.
- Keep a proper log of all bookings; Confirm bookings, handle of emergency calls, communicating with the caller to gathering pertinent info, and responding to and advising the caller appropriately.
- Assessing patients at the scene & en route, communicating with medical personnel to determine the next course of action in patient treatment.
- Ensure that Avenue Healthcare corporate governance policies are adhered to, including preventing, detecting, and reporting any fraud or criminal activities, and Implementing audit recommendations.
- Ensure adequate knowledge of, and compliance to all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures, and systems, especially policies pertaining to the provision of medical services and finance.

Person Specification
- Certificate in Emergency Medical Technician with a Valid Practicing /Operating card
- Valid Driving License with 2+ year experience as an EMT OPERATOR
