Position Title: Internal Auditor II
Reports to: Head of Internal Audit
Work Location: Head Office, Nyali – Mombasa
About the Role
Yehu Microfinance Services Limited seeks to attract and retain a strategic thinker with a keen eye for detail, strong execution skills, and a passion for promoting integrity, accountability, and sustainable business growth in the role of Internal Auditor II.
The Internal Auditor will be responsible for providing independent assurance on the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes across the organization. The position involves leading audit planning and execution within assigned operational units (branches), ensuring compliance with institutional policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
This role also entails driving continuous process improvement initiatives, providing actionable insights to management, and fostering a culture of compliance, professionalism, and operational excellence. The Internal Auditor will report to the Head of Internal Audit and may supervise the routine work of Internal Auditor I or junior auditors.
Key Specific Responsibilities
1. Audit Leadership and Execution
- Lead comprehensive routine and ad-hoc audits at branch and functional levels, including physical verifications of assets, loan portfolios, and client interactions.
- Develop and implement audit plans aligned with organizational risks, regulatory requirements, and strategic objectives.
- Mentor and supervise Assistant Internal Auditors, providing guidance on fieldwork, data analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
2. Advanced Accounting and Risk Assessment
- Apply advanced audit methodologies to evaluate financial accuracy, compliance with IFRS/IPSAS/GAAP, and internal controls.
- Utilize predictive risk modelling to identify high-risk processes, anticipate compliance breaches, and prevent control failures.
- Conduct in-depth fraud risk assessments using frameworks like COSO and ACFE.
- Perform analytical procedures using Excel, Power BI, and other tools to detect anomalies and portfolio risks.
3. Portfolio and Compliance Management
- Analyze loan portfolio trends for delinquency, concentration risks, and policy adherence.
- Evaluate social performance and client protection alignment with institutional goals.
- Monitor AML/CFT, data privacy, and fair treatment practices.
- Track regulatory compliance and drive corrective actions through systematic follow-ups.
4. Reporting and Stakeholder Engagement
- Prepare high-quality audit reports and executive summaries that meet professional standards (ISA, IIA).
- Communicate findings and recommendations to management, the board, and regulators.
- Maintain risk registers and contribute to policy development for strengthened governance.
5. Continuous Improvement and Training
- Facilitate training sessions on audit techniques, compliance frameworks, and social impact measurement.
- Identify opportunities to refine audit processes, checklists, and tools based on emerging risks and best practices.
Key Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of risk-based auditing, internal controls, financial analysis, and regulatory compliance frameworks (CBK Microfinance regulations, AML/CFT, data protection).
- Proven ability to lead and execute audit assignments and produce high-quality reports that meet ISA and IIA standards.
- Proficiency in management information systems, core banking systems, data analytics tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Advanced data analysis and interpretation, root cause analysis, and predictive risk management skills.

Academic & Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, or related field.
- CPA (K) or ACCA qualification is mandatory.
- CIA, CISA, or CFE certification will be an added advantage.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (Finance, Strategic Management, or Auditing) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive audit experience, with at least 2 years at a senior or supervisory level in microfinance, banking, or financial services.
- Must be a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and ICPAK in good standing.
