MAIN JOB PURPOSE

The main purpose of the job is to provide technical and administrative support to the Safety Department in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness of Safety Management System of AMREF Flying Doctors’ AOC and AMO. The Safety Officer shall maintain a close relation with Flight Operations Unit on AOC matters and Maintenance Department on AMO maters while reporting directly to the Head of Safety.

Job Description

  • Management and update of Safety Records;
  • Management and update of the eSMS;
  • Maintenance of the safety database and ensuring that information recorded is accurate;
  • Documenting all safety activities as per the SMS Manual;
  • Promote a strong safety culture within the organization;
  • Support in the development and implementation of Safety Promotion activities in the organization;
  • Organizing and coordinating safety and ERP drills and exercises required;
  • Investigate and follow-up on investigation of hazards and occurrences;
  • Support in planning and implementation of the Safety Review Board and Internal Safety Meetings;
  • Development and dissemination of safety bulletins, newsflashes and newsletters;
  • Identify hazards and perform operational risk assessment;
  • Reporting of incidents and accidents to KCAA;
  • Perform gap analysis as required by the SMS programme;
  • Analysis of safety data;
  • Developing of the training material and assist in conducting safety and ERP training and maintenance of  the training records;
  • Develop and update the Management of Change (MOC);
  • Develop and maintain safety performance targets;
  • Perform all other work related duties.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years’ consecutive work experience in the aviation industry in safety and or quality.
  • A technical qualification in the field of flight operations or aircraft maintenance.
  • Completed Safety Management System (SMS) training from a recognized institution
  • Completed Quality Management System (QMS) training from a recognized institution is an added advantage.
  • ICT Proficiency.
  • Good knowledge of KCARs.

Work Environment

  • Working in a 24-hour environment based at AFD Hangar, Wilson airport
