Tax Associate

Key Accountabilities:
Tax Optimization & Value Creation

  • Support the Head of Tax to design and implement tax-efficient structures for group reorganizations.
  • Identify and pursue relevant tax exemptions, incentives, and breaks to minimize tax outflows for portfolio companies.
  • Provide transaction advisory services, including structuring exits, acquisitions, and asset transfers, ensuring tax optimization.
  • Pursue and unlock tax refunds from the Kenya Revenue Authority to improve cash flow efficiency across portfolio entities.

Task Compliance & Risk Management

  • Internal Compliance Oversight:
    • Conduct routine compliance reviews and establish robust internal controls to achieve utmost tax compliance across all portfolio companies.
    • Oversee accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax computations as part of management reporting.
    • Conduct monthly reviews of financial transactions across all portfolio entities to ensure timely filing of tax returns while optimizing tax positions.
  • External Compliance Oversight
    • Manage KRA engagements, including audits, inquiries, and verifications, to ensure full regulatory compliance.
    • Handle tax disputes efficiently, aiming to preserve value by achieving optimal resolutions.
  • Management of Mauritius and offshore subsidiaries:
    • Provide comprehensive support to ensure full regulatory compliance for all Centum’s offshore entities, with a focus on accurate and timely tax reporting, adherence to statutory reporting obligations, and alignment with governance frameworks.

Tax Knowledge and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Deliver tailored tax training sessions to business unit heads, finance teams, and investment teams, ensuring alignment with current laws and practices.
  • Prepare and disseminate tax publications to stakeholders, highlighting changes in tax laws, actionable strategies, and mitigation plans for adverse developments.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any Business-related field
  • CPA(K) qualification
  • At least 3–4 years of experience in tax, preferably within a consulting firm
  • Experience handling multi-jurisdictional tax affairs
  • Proven track record in handling and resolving tax disputes with revenue authorities
  • Analytical mindset and proactively delivers innovative solutions
  • Team player who builds strong relationships
  • Confident decision-maker with effective communication skills
  • Quick to process information and adapt in dynamic situations
  • Clear and influential in both verbal and written communication
  • Always seeking creative ways to add value and improve processes
