Job Title: Communications Officer

Location: Nairobi, Kenya.

Africa Youth Trust (AYT) is seeking a dynamic, creative, and experienced communications officer to help amplify our impact and deepen our engagement with our audiences. This role is ideal for a communications professional who is passionate about storytelling, youth development, and social justice. You will lead the design and execution of AYT’s communication strategy, working closely with program teams to highlight our work, strengthen our digital presence, and increase the visibility of our initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies in line with AYT’s branding and messaging standards.
  • Manage and regularly update AYT’s website to ensure timely and relevant content.
  • Create compelling written and visual content, including impact stories, reports, blogs, and newsletters.
  • Maintain a strong and consistent presence across social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok).
  • Build and manage relationships with media outlets; organize press events, interviews, and press releases.
  • Coordinate knowledge management and documentation of program outcomes, including success stories and case studies.
  • Design and oversee the production of various publications such as annual reports, program profiles, manuals, and workbooks.
  • Support the entire publication process, from concept development to final production.
  • Manage multimedia content creation, including photography, videography, and graphic design.
  • Produce monthly newsletters highlighting organizational milestones and achievements.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years’ professional experience in a communications role, preferably within the development or non-profit sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to translate complex data and program results into engaging content.
  • Strong proficiency in managing websites and content management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in photography, videography, and graphic design.
  • Familiarity with social media strategy and analytics.
  • High level of creativity, initiative, and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
