Underwriting Analyst, Risk Survey

Key Responsibilities

  • Risk assessment at insurance application for selected risks to determine their acceptability or otherwise and to guide underwriters on the exposure(s) inherent in the risk(s).
  • Inspect property and machinery so as to assess the exposure to hazards and hence assist the underwriters maintain quality risks in our books.
  • Collate and assess risk information on site, including capturing photographic evidence, estimating the nature, size and frequency of possible losses throughout the insured’s entire operations etc.
  • Prepare detailed reports, with risk recommendations and safety improvements to create a basis for reducing or completely eliminating risks.
  • Compile data that influence the determination of premium rates to provide management with a basis for decision-making on measures to be taken and continuous reporting on changes in the basis for the estimation of risk.
  • Develop safety programs compatible with the needs and resources of policyholders providing the best control methods (standards) for various exposures.
  • Accompany underwriters on site visits to help with their training and development.
  • Conduct safety programs to company staff by informing on safety standards and regulations.
  • Advise clients on site on opportunities and savings on risk improvement programmes.
  • Keep up to date with technical aspects affecting risks e.g. trade processes, legislation and hazardous material.
  • Training on risk management to sales, underwriting and claims staff
  • Process payment of external surveyors
  • Embrace governance requirements with respect to KYC/AML/Data protection requirements per governing Acts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Preferably Civil or Mechanical), Insurance or risk management course
  • Insurance knowledge will be an added advantage

Experience

  • At least 1 year experience in assignments incorporating risk management

Competencies ·

  • Knowledge of insurance concepts
  • Knowledge of underwriting processes and procedures
  • Technical competence in underwriting insurance risks
  • Knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements
