About the role

Turaco is looking for a highly organized and results-driven Legal Associate to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for our legal and compliance review work.

Ideally knowledgeable and experienced in insurance legal matters, Breach of contract of insurance, Tort, Employment Matters, and legal disputes in commercial law. An ideal candidate has worked at a busy law firm or as in-house counsel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate various agreements, including insurance policies, service level agreements with partners, vendor agreements, and terms & conditions.
  • Maintain organized and compliant commercial contracts, implementing a tracking system for all contract workflows.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather necessary inputs and manage contract lifecycle tasks.
  • Identify and appropriately escalate legal risks to teams involved in contracting with third parties.
  • Enhance the operational efficiency of our contracting processes.
  • Manage legal servings and legal insurance matters involving Turaco as an insurance underwriter.
  • Provide legal responses and document review support to various teams.
  • Conduct legal research, documentation, and offer legal advice and solutions.
  • Manage legal compliance with relevant regulatory bodies (including insurance regulators, data protection, etc.)
  • Manage the Company Secretary work for all Turaco entities.
  • Help the business understand and manage the balance between commercial opportunities and legal risks.
  • Develop templates for commonly used legal documents and review the application of the templates.

Key Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of post-admission experience in a busy law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB), Legal Diploma (Dip. in Law, KSL), and advocate of the High Court.
  • Knowledge of insurance products, services, principles, and practices is an added advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High-level interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, including strong collaboration abilities.
  • Self-starter, highly organized, and possessing a high degree of integrity.
  • Trustworthiness and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Willingness to work effectively as a team member across different geographies and cultures.
