ROLE PURPOSE

This new role will provide strategic and technical support on localisation and partnerships, focusing on partners capacity strengthening in the Nandi Carbon – Climate resilience, livelihoods and nutrition Project.

This role will report to the Head of Awards, Localization & Partnerships with a dotted line to the Country Operations Manager

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

Technical Support on Partnership and localization advancement in the Nandi Project

  • Key liaison between Save the Children and the partners in the project; both strategic and implementing partners.
  • Lead on the design and coordinate with respective SCI colleagues for the capacity strengthening of partners on best practices especially around HR, MEARL, Finance, Internal controls and compliance, Advocacy and communication, Child Protection and GESI, Safeguarding, Supply Chain and donor compliance and reporting.
  • Coordinate timely planning of monthly partner review meetings for the Nandi project; ensure relevant teams are invited, minutes from the meeting shared on time and follow up of action points emanating from the meetings until they are sufficiently closed.
  • Lead in supporting the partners to develop key policies to enhance their organizational capacity; Finance and Internal Controls, Procurement, HR, Safeguarding amongst others.
  • Take a lead role in partner engagements, partner due diligence and partner assessments for the Nandi project.
  • Support further partner mapping for the Nandi project, as needed, in collaboration with the Operations Lead and the Technical Specialists (TSs).
  • Lead on coordination of all the partners in the project; ensuring smooth flow of information from the country office to the partners and vice versa.
  • Lead on streamlining reporting from the partners; ensuring timeliness and quality and feedback from the country office teams
  • Support the Head of Awards and Partnerships in the design and implementation of mechanisms that promote greater accountability between the country office and partners.
  • Ensure that all project documentation is filed on SCI online systems.

Finance

  • Work with the Finance team to ensure relevant payments have been uploaded and processed in prosave (Save the Children’s procurement system) in a timely manner.
  • Handling of office petty cash and submitting monthly reconciliations to finance manager.
  •  Ensure complete documentation on invoicing by reviewing the supplier invoices for accuracy as per the Purchase order, attendance list/ guest registration form, the framework agreement and as per the specific donor requirements.
  • Ensure proper storage of all finance supporting documents and that they are transported to Nairobi on a month
  • Conduct refresher trainings for the partner as necessary
  • In charge of all partner liquidation in the project and sharing timely feedback with them to ensure continuous capacity strengthening in financial accounting and reporting.

Asset Management

  • Maintaining up-to-date control of all assets including tracking donor, value, and location, managing staff issue, and recording all asset movements and disposal
  • Oversee the issuance and return of assets to/from staff
  • Ensure good condition of assets and maintain asset condition reports.
  • Report any defective communication equipment or service and check on running costs with program support officer to ensure no misuse occurs.
  • Report any defective IT or office equipment to the program support officer.
  • Work closely with the Administration Officer to ensure the GPE (General Program Equipment) is managed well and regular monthly reconciliation is shared.

Developing self and others

  • Build relationships with members of other teams i.e. Awards, PDQ, Finance, Safeguarding, Operations etc.
  • Key lead in capacity strengthening of partners in the areas identified in the capacity strengthening plans.

Communicating with impact and coordination

  • Ability to engage effectively and respectfully with a diverse group of team members and partners.
  • Strong coordination skills especially with other functional areas and partners.

Contract Duration: 9 months (with possibility of extension)

Work Location: Nairobi 

QUALIFICATIONS  AND EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • Undergraduate degree in BCom and/or Business Administration; master’s degree preferable.
  • At least five years’ experience of working in a partnership-based model with local NGOs, Faith Based Organizations and/or Civil Society organisations.
  • Experience of working in partnership across a diversity of local partners, including small to medium-sized organisations.
  • Experience with programme and project cycle management
  • Demonstrated experience of working with local organisations in transformative processes that strengthened their capacities, voice and influence and levels of funding.
  • Familiarity with localisation policy instruments (e.g. Grand Bargain) and familiarity with current debates on localisation. 
  • Demonstrable understanding of the decision-making and international policy processes in the international humanitarian and development sectors and how these may be influenced.
  • Experience in documenting and socialising learning and research in innovative and impactful ways
  • Excellent coordination, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Willingness to travel to field locations and work in diverse environments
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written, required. 
  • Commitment to Save the Children values, including willingness to abide by and enforce the Child Safeguarding policy.
