Role Profile
This is a Supervisory role within the business unit that is expected to assist the Declaration/Bonds Manager to drive Company’s group strategy through proactive, high quality specialist global trade & excise governance leadership to ensure the effective management of MCF trade affairs locally within East Africa. The job entails leading and coordinating Bonds and Customs Operations & requirements to deliver on our robust and sound strategy in a highly dynamic industry. The role is meant to assist the Bonds & Customs manager to coordinate the work of efficient bonds execution, cancellations and retirement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide effective leadership, mentorship and strategic direction in all customs operations of bonds.
- Supervision of Bonds operations including re-warehousing, cancellations & retirement of bonds to ensure that they are accurately executed within required timelines to avoid penalties.
- Supervise the bonds clerks/officers handling various processes / documentation at KRA, exit points as well as inside our bonded warehouse/godowns to ensure accountability.
- Monitor KRA alert on bonding as well as all pre-alerts for all Seafreight and Airfreight, Transit and Transshipments including Local and Transit imports and Exports by sea and road and forward the documents to the concerned parties.
- Share weekly reports.
- Ensure proper maintenance of all customs documents, bond records and all other related documents in the respective locations/sections as per the laid down procedures.
- Support both internal & external clients with all KRA requirements for bonding whenever the advice is sought.
- Processing of trade licenses (agents, bonded warehouse licenses).
- Supervise and organize the team in clearing, documentation and logistics for smooth running of bonds operations.
- Prompt attention to clients’ complaints within the stipulated timeframe, guiding clients on bond’s clearing processes and providing regular updates to customers.
- Assisting in managing both the Imports & Exports processes.
- Effectively liaise with KIFWA, KEBS, KSB, CBK, SGS and other regulatory bodies to ensure the smooth flow of our business.
- Supervise Declaration teams of EX-warehouse entries to ensure that Entry registration is done accurately.
- Ensure that transporters of ex-warehouse Exports are directed to report to our officer in Malaba border point for the purpose of processing COES.
Education & Experience
- A minimum of a Diploma in clearing & Forwarding, shipping, tax administration or any logistics related field from a recognized Institution. A Bachelor’s degree in Business field is an added advantage.
- A minimum of 7 years relevant experience with a minimum of 5 years in a Supervisory role.
- Must demonstrate effectiveness in holding conversations with customers and giving progress reports.
- Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of customs legislation, tariffs, import/export documentation, customs clearance, bond management and customs declaration.
- Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of clearing and forwarding regulations.
- Must be well conversant with port operations procedures.
- Must have good knowledge of government procedures relating to imports & exports.
- Knowledge of customs laws pertaining to Kenya, East Africa.
- Must demonstrate the ability to maintain good working relationships with all the stakeholders.
- Must demonstrate ability to work independently.
- Must demonstrate good supervision skills and be a good team player.
- Must be flexible in work habits and schedules.
- Must demonstrate high integrity and ethical practice.
- Must demonstrate commitment to operational effectiveness.
- Must have knowledge in use of MS office packages.
