Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Human Resource Officer to build and manage HR systems as our organization scales. Currently a team of 12, we expect to double in size next year. The ideal candidate will design a proper organogram, ensure compliance with Kenyan labor laws, develop HR policies, advise on salary structures, and lead onboarding and employee engagement. Prior experience in a startup or fast-growing company is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- HR Strategy & Structure
- Develop and maintain an organizational structure and organogram aligned with growth plans.
- Advise management on workforce planning and talent acquisition strategies.
2. Compliance & Policy Development
- Ensure full compliance with Kenyan labor laws and statutory requirements (NSSF, NHIF, PAYE, leave policies).
- Draft and implement HR policies, employee handbook, and disciplinary procedures.
3. Compensation & Benefits
- Advise on competitive salary scales and annual increments based on market benchmarks.
- Manage payroll coordination and statutory deductions.
4. Recruitment & Onboarding
- Lead end-to-end recruitment for new hires and interns.
- Design and execute onboarding programs for smooth integration.
5. Performance Management & Employee Relations
- Support managers in setting KPIs and conducting appraisals.
- Serve as the first point of contact for HR queries.
- Work with management to build and grow a “people First” work culture.
6. Training & Development
- Identify training needs and coordinate learning programs.
7. HR Administration
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation.
- Prepare HR reports for management review.
Additional Responsibilities
- Platform Workforce Management:
- Develop policies and frameworks for engaging freelance biomedical engineers through our platform (similar to ride-hailing models).
- Ensure compliance with Kenyan labor laws for non-traditional work arrangements.
2. Field Deployment Compliance:
- Create onboarding processes for biomedical engineers placed in facilities, including credential checks, health/safety compliance, and performance monitoring.
- Implement verification systems for qualifications and background checks.
3. Platform Integration:
- Advise on HR processes for managing remote and field biomedical staff via digital platforms.
- Support integration of HRIS tools for tracking gig-style workforce.
4. Risk & Safety Management:
- Ensure insurance, liability coverage, and occupational health standards for deployed biomedical engineers.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Human Resource Management or related field.
- Certification: Minimum IHRM membership or recognized HR certification.
- Minimum 2 years of HR experience, preferably in a startup or SME environment.
- Strong knowledge of Kenyan labor laws and HR best practices.
- Familiarity with HR software and MS Office tools.
