Basic job summary:
The jobholder is responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment within the university to ensure safe, functional, and efficient operations. The Maintenance Assistant – Electricals will work under the supervision of qualified technicians to carry out routine electrical tasks and respond to maintenance requests promptly.
Key Responsibilities
Routine Electrical Maintenance
The duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist in inspecting, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems including lighting, sockets, switches, and distribution boards.
- Perform preventive maintenance on electrical installations under supervision.
Electrical Installations
The dutiesinclude but are notlimited to:
- Support the installation of electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment for new buildings or renovations.
- Ensure proper use of tools, materials, and safety gear during installation works.
Trouble Shooting and Repairs
The dutiesinclude but are notlimited to:
- Assist in diagnosing electrical faults and repairing minor issues such as blown fuses or faulty lights.
- Escalate complex issues to the Electrical Technician or Supervisor for resolution.
Record Keeping
The duties include but are not limited to:
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks, service requests, and completed works.
- Assist in inventory control for electrical tools, spare parts, and supplies.
Safety and Compliance
The duties include but are not limited to:
- Adhere to electrical safety codes and university policies at all times.
- Participate in fire drills, safety audits, and emergency response as required.
Team Support
The duties include but are not limited to:
- Work collaboratively with other maintenance staff including plumbers, carpenters, and cleaners.
- Support university events and functions with temporary power setups as directed.
Minimum Academic Qualifications:
- A Diploma or Higher Qualification in Electrical Engineering or Equivalent
- A Valid electrician License/Instalation permit from the relevant regulatory authority
- Additional certification in electrical safety HV/LV systems, or specialized electrical courses are an added advantage
Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar role
