Data Assistant

Project Summary
CMMB is implementing a Global Fund–supported Tuberculosis (TB) prevention, care, and treatment project in Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui counties in partnership with the respective County Health Departments. The project contributes to national TB goals under the TB National Strategic Plan 2023–2027, focusing on improving TB case detection, treatment coverage and success, TB preventive treatment uptake, and integration of TB/HIV and other co-morbidity services.
The project places strong emphasis on community systems strengthening by supporting Community Health Promoters (CHPs) and other community actors to conduct TB screening, contact tracing, treatment adherence support, community-led monitoring (CLM), and demand creation for TB services. Additionally, it strengthens the Health Management Information System (HMIS) to generate timely and accurate reporting of community-level TB interventions, contact tracing, and treatment interrupter data into national platforms.
Job Overview
The Data Assistant is an entry-level position that provides hands-on support for routine data entry, basic data cleaning, and simple analysis under the close supervision of the M&E Officer. The role supports day-to-day project data management needs while offering practical learning experience in health program monitoring and reporting within a Global Fund–supported TB program.
Key Responsibilities
Data Entry and Management
- Support timely and accurate entry of routine program data received from health facilities and community structures into approved data tools and databases.
- Compile and organize monthly and quarterly reporting data from implementing sites in line with project reporting timelines.
- Maintain orderly electronic and physical data files to support verification and audits.
Data Quality Support
- Assist the M&E Officer with routine data cleaning, validation, and cross-checking to ensure completeness, consistency, and accuracy of reported data.
- Support basic data quality checks, including verification of totals, missing values, and alignment with source documents.
- Flag data discrepancies and documentation gaps to the M&E Officer for review and follow-up.
Basic Analysis and Reporting
- Support simple data analysis using Microsoft Excel, including generation of tables, summaries, and basic charts.
- Assist in preparation of routine program reports, dashboards, and data summaries for internal use and donor reporting.
- Support documentation of project outputs, including success stories, lessons learned, and emerging trends from routine data.
Program Support and Learning
- Support M&E and project teams during community and facility-based activities, including data collection and reporting processes.
- Participate in review meetings, data review sessions, and learning forums as part of capacity development.
- Carry out any other data-related tasks as assigned by the M&E Officer to support effective project implementation.
Qualifications and Skills
- University degree in Statistics, Health Information Management, Project Management, Public Health, or a related field.
- Strong basic data analysis skills using Microsoft Excel (data entry, formulas, summaries, charts).
- Good written communication skills and ability to document information clearly.
- Knowledge of Power BI or other data visualization tools is an added advantage.
- Attention to detail, willingness to learn, and ability to work under supervision in a team-based environment.
