Background
Wetlands International works to conserve and restore wetlands for the benefit of people and nature. Across Eastern Africa, the organisation implements programmes that support climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, water security, and sustainable livelihoods.
Effective communication is central to amplifying this work, strengthening visibility, and ensuring donor and partner engagement. To support these efforts, Wetlands International Eastern Africa is seeking a Communications Intern to contribute to content creation, digital communications, and field documentation.
Role Overview
The Communications Intern will support day-to-day communication activities under the guidance of the Communications Officer. The role offers hands-on learning in storytelling, photography, social media management, and donor visibility, while contributing to the organisation’s regional communications outputs.
Working closely with programme teams, MEL/GIS officers, and country teams, the intern will help document field activities, support digital platforms, and assist in the preparation of communication materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft social media posts, captions, short articles, and field stories
- Support content gathering from staff, partners, and field activities
- Assist with managing social media platforms and tracking basic analytics
- Capture and edit photos and short video clips for communication use
- Support editing of basic multimedia content using tools such as Canva, CapCut, and Adobe Creative Suite
- Assist with documentation during workshops, meetings, and field missions
- Support donor visibility through preparation and tracking of communication materials
- Provide logistical and administrative support for communication-related activities
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, or a related field
- At least six (6) months’ practical experience in a similar role
- Interest or experience in social media management and digital communications
- Basic photography, videography, and content editing skills
- Strong organisational, communication, and teamwork skills
- Willingness to learn and work in a fast-paced environment
