Job Title: Research Associate – Moving IMPACT Project

Department: Strathmore Energy Research Centre (SERC)
Reporting to: Project Lead

Basic Job Summary

The Research Associate will be conducting literature reviews to support the research, assisting with data collection and analysis through surveys, interviews, and focus groups, and facilitating fieldwork logistics.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Comprehensive Literature Reviews:
    A comprehensive review of academic and industry literature supporting the research tasks.
  2. Data Collection Reports:
    Completed qualitative and quantitative data from surveys, interviews, focus groups, and case studies.
  3. Fieldwork Coordination:
    Successfully managed logistics for fieldwork, including participant engagement and on-site visits.
  4. Organized and Coded Data:
    Well-structured and coded research data, ready for analysis and interpretation.
  5. Progress Reports:
    Drafted reports, summaries, and briefs on research findings for dissemination to stakeholders and the academic community.
  6. Research Assistance:
    Completed tasks assigned by the project lead, contributing to the smooth execution of the project.
  7. Collaborative Contributions:
    Active participation in team efforts to meet project milestones and timelines.
  8. General Duties
  • Organizing and coding data
  • Contributing to report writing
  • Acting as a research assistant for tasks assigned by the project lead
  • Collaboration with the project team and stakeholders is crucial to meet milestones, with additional tasks assigned as needed by the principal investigators or project manager

Minimum Academic Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a Master of Science degree in Energy, Physics, Engineering from a CUE recognized University in Kenya.

Experience

  • Previous experience working on research projects, preferably in fields of energy.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools.
  • Skills in data visualization and presentation.

Competencies and Attributes

  • Practical experience of using programming languages, systems modelling and data management software such as: python, R, LCA, C++, Java, html, Access, SQL, Knime, Stella, ABM, NVIVO, Q-GIS, ArcGIS
  • Must be passionate about research and to produce quality research publications.
  • Must be committed to finish his/her MSc thesis within the project period and deliver the outputs of the three tasks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, both independently and under guidance.
