Role Purpose
The Scrum Master Chapter Lead is accountable for enterprise agile delivery capability, flow and delivery governance across squads and tribes. The role focuses on predictability, transparency and continuous improvement, enabling squads and leaders to deliver effectively without owning delivery outcomes, while ensuring strong discipline, readiness and risk management across the delivery system.
Key Responsibilities
Agile Delivery Capability & Flow
- Define, evolve and govern agile delivery practices and standards across squads and tribes.
- Establish consistent approaches to sprint planning, PI readiness, ceremonies and flow-based metrics.
- Drive measurable improvements in delivery predictability, throughput and time-to-market.
- Identify and resolve systemic impediments impacting flow, quality or commitment reliability.
Delivery Governance, Risk & Readiness
- Ensure effective PI pre-planning, readiness discipline and Definition of Ready adherence.
- Own visibility and active management of delivery risks, issues and dependencies (ROAM).
- Intervene where agile discipline breaks down and escalate risks early to appropriate forums.
- Strengthen commitment reliability across sprints and PIs through data-driven insights.
People Leadership & Coaching
- Build, mentor and develop high-performing Scrum Masters.
- Coach leaders, teams and stakeholders on agile principles, flow thinking and accountability.
- Establish and maintain competency frameworks, expectations and career paths for Scrum Masters.
- Foster a culture of transparency, learning, ownership and continuous improvement.
Enablement & Continuous Improvement
- Use delivery data and insights to diagnose bottlenecks and drive targeted improvements.
- Partner closely with all Chapter Leads to improve end-to-end flow.
- Enable effective dependency management and cross-squad coordination.
- Support scaling practices aligned to the organization’s evolving agile maturity.
Stakeholder Engagement & Influence
- Act as a trusted advisor to Technology and Business leaders on delivery effectiveness and agility.
- Communicate delivery risks, trends and improvement priorities clearly and confidently.
- Challenge constructively, balance pragmatism with agile principles and influence without authority.
