The National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK) is inviting qualified and experienced candidates to apply for the position of Research and Development Officer based at the Nairobi Office.

About NPCK

NPCK is a multi-stakeholder public-private partnership (PPP) organization mandated to organize and coordinate activities within the potato subsector. The Council supports the industry through information dissemination, advocacy for enabling policies, and ensuring adherence to regulations, standards, and best practices.

To strengthen its technical capacity, NPCK seeks to recruit a competent Research and Development Officer to support research initiatives within the potato industry.

Position Overview

The Research and Development Officer will be responsible for research and development work supporting businesses in the potato value chain. The officer will oversee field demonstrations and research activities from planning through completion.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Oversee efficacy trials, seed potato certification (under authorization by KEPHIS), and soil testing functions.
  2. Coordinate county field trials, demonstrations, and research activities, including ware potato marketing, storage, and processing research.
  3. Conduct research on value addition technologies and commercialization opportunities, including related standards.
  4. Lead solution search initiatives for potato pests and diseases including Late Blight, PCN, Dickeya species, and other emerging diseases.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Pathology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in research work and familiarity with KEPHIS functions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to develop technically sound solutions.
  • Ability to work in cross-cultural environments.
  • Willingness to travel and actively participate in fieldwork.
