Purpose

Kenya’s ASAL counties have the lowest development indicators in the Country. They record some
of the lowest achievements in numeracy and literacy skills which has a snowball effect on overall
learning outcomes. Girls and young women from this region are the most affected. The gender
barriers contributing to their poor educational attainment and general life outcomes are historical
marginalisation rooted in extreme poverty, pervasive patriarchal socio-cultural practices, poor
infrastructure, and a general lack of resources to support access to essential social services.
The purpose of ths engagement is to respond to the educational gap necessitated by the myriad
of challenges hindering girls and young women access to basic education; ta fundamental right as
stipulated in the Kenyan constitution. As such, Akili Dada seeks the services of a facilitator
