SONOGRAPHER

  • Location: Nairobi, Kenya 
  • Reports to: Radiology Manager 
  • Application Deadline: 20th March 2026 

Job Purpose 

The overall purpose of this job is to carry out ultrasound scanning and x-ray image acquisition for diagnostic purposes in line with established protocols. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Obtain high quality diagnostic sonographic images and provide reports to the radiologist for validation as per departmental protocols.
  • General X-ray image acquisition and provision of films with optimal diagnostic quality to the Radiologist for interpretation.
  • Accurate patient identification, preparation, and positioning prior to imaging.
  • Recognize abnormal findings and promptly escalate urgent cases to the radiologist.
  • Maintain patient safety, infection control, and professional communication throughout examinations.
  • Accurately document examinations done and ensure all patient data is in the PACS system.
  • Ensure proper care, basic troubleshooting, and quality checks of ultrasound equipment.
  • Participate in departmental quality assurance, audit, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Provide patient education and reassurance during procedures.
  • Comply with radiology department policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements. 

Qualifications 

  • Higher Diploma in Ultrasound or Degree in Radiography from a recognized institution.
  • Diploma in Medical Imaging Sciences. Minimum of 3 (years) experience in Sonography and general radiography preferably in a hospital environment.
  • Valid KNRA license and SORK Certification. 

Critical Competencies

  • Proficient in performing and optimizing diagnostic ultrasound and general x-ray examinations.
  • Strong understanding of radiation safety.
  • Ability to recognize abnormal or urgent findings and escalate appropriately.
  • Professional interaction, patient reassurance, and clear instructions during exams.
  • Competence in basic troubleshooting and proper use of ultrasound and x-ray systems.
  • Adherence to patient confidentiality and safety.
