Purpose
The role is the lead finance business partner to the Agri-business function (Leaf growing and Green leaf threshing).
The role provides support to Leaf Growing, Grean Leaf Threshing (GLT), Operations Teams, Head of Agri-business & Senior Commercial Finance Manager, Operations in all aspects of financial management, including but not limited to; budgeting, forecasting, reporting, credit management, product costing and analysis, in-stock costs, working capital & capital expenditure management, internal controls compliance, development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
Principal Accountabilities
- Delivery of Agri-business company plan commitments
- Provision of timely and accurate financial management information relating to Leaf, forecast accuracy of leaf costs including blends, working capital and a cause of change for any variances
- Challenging status quo on potential productivity savings opportunities including participation in loss analysis and ideas generating forums
- Proactive management and accurate reporting of losses including early warnings of potential risks
- Ensure appropriate treatment of import duties, levies and costs relating to leaf
- Liaise with auditors to ensure timely completion of audits and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Accurate cashflow and working capital management of Leaf related inputs
- Drive the control environment on asset and inventory management.
- Drive compliance to internal controls and engage the Leaf and GLT team to inspire a culture of continuous improvement including driving a controls culture
- External relationship engagement to gain insights and leverage to achieve deliverables and support our business interests.
- Support site accreditations qualification agenda
- Implement processes to proactively manage and meet trade blocs threshold compliance
- Liaise with key stakeholders to expand breadth of knowledge, technical expertise and collaborate to achieve business objectives
- Work with Shared Service Teams to ensure accuracy of cost roll up forecasts
- Working with Area/Regional Operations Finance Teams on information requests
- Develop leadership skills for own career advancement
- Contribute to shaping BAT’s inclusive culture by demonstrating the right behaviors
Additional Information
Knowledge / Qualifications
- Financial or audit background with a professional accountancy qualification (such as ACCA, CPA) and a relevant university degree.
- Minimum of 8 years relevant finance/audit experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Prior experience in an FMCG or agri-business environment is an added advantage
- Working knowledge of SAP is an added advantage.

- Effective communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to manage relationships and work with managers across all levels within the company and externally.
- Good influencing skills with ability to interact with all levels of senior management.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff within the company and externally – this should be demonstrated by successful experience in business partnership and decision support.
- Clear understanding of commercial business drivers.
- Project management skills – able to work independently and maintain level of independence whilst working in partnership with the leaf, operations and finance functions
