Role Overview
The Cooler Trainee supports the maintenance and efficient operation of cold chain equipment, including cold rooms and chest freezers. Under supervision, the trainee assists in monitoring temperatures and electricity usage, performs basic maintenance tasks, and helps in the deployment and upkeep of freezer units. The role also involves learning to identify and report faults, ensuring equipment safety, and supporting customer training on proper freezer use and handling.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will be as follows:
Daily Monitoring
- Assist in tracking and recording cold room temperatures, ensuring logs are completed accurately.
- Support monitoring of electricity usage and help maintain daily records for efficiency tracking.
- Report any unusual temperature or power fluctuations to the supervisor(Senior Technician).
Freezer Management
- Support deployment, cleaning, and basic checks of chest freezers.
- Assist in stocktaking and labeling of freezer units.
- Ensure freezers are clean, properly arranged, and ready for customer use.
Basic Maintenance Support
- Assist technicians in performing minor electrical and mechanical repairs.
- Support routine maintenance of cold rooms and refrigeration equipment.
- Learn and follow proper safety procedures during maintenance activities.
Overnight Monitoring Support
- Assist with periodic checks of cold room conditions when required.
- Report issues observed during monitoring to the responsible technician.
Customer Support & Training
- Support in training customers on proper use and care of chest freezers.
- Help respond to basic customer inquiries and escalate complex issues.
- Provide follow-up support to ensure proper equipment usage.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Temperature Monitoring Accuracy:
Assist in maintaining accurate logs with minimal errors. - Electricity Usage Tracking:
Support timely and complete daily recording of electricity usage. - Repair Support Response Time:
Assist in responding to repair needs promptly (within 24 hours under supervision). - Customer Training Support:
Support training of all new customers within their first week.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate or Diploma from a recognized TVET institution in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
- Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of attachment, internship, or practical experience in refrigeration, cooler maintenance, or related technical work is preferred.
- Basic understanding of refrigeration systems or willingness to learn.
- Exposure to cold rooms, freezers, or technical maintenance (internship or attachment experience is an added advantage).
- Willingness to work in field environments and across multiple locations.
