Biomedical Engineer – Critical Care Systems
M.P Shah Hospital is looking to recruit a professional and evidence-driven person for a position
of Biomedical Engineer – Critical Care Systems.
Reporting to the Biomedical Engineering Manager, the Biomedical Engineer- Critical Care
Systems will be responsible for installation, maintenance, calibration and management of medical
equipment used in high-acuity areas including ICU, HDU, Renal Unit, Operating Theatre, and
among others.
The roles ensure optimal functionality, safety, and compliance of all critical care
devices to support high quality patient care.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of critical care equipment, ensuring maximum uptime and reliability of life-support systems.
- Support the installation, testing, and commissioning of new medical equipment, ensuring proper acceptance testing and documentation prior to clinical use, while coordinating with vendors during equipment setup and upgrades.
- Conduct routine calibration and performance verification of medical devices, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, hospital policies, and international safety standards (e.g., ISO, IEC), while maintaining accurate equipment records, service logs, and calibration certificates.
- Provide technical support to clinicians during equipment use, train healthcare staff on the safe and proper operation of medical devices, and participate in clinical risk management related to equipment use.
- Maintain up-to-date asset registers and service schedules, monitor equipment lifecycle to recommend replacements or upgrades, and support procurement processes through technical evaluations and specification development.
- Ensure adherence to patient safety and infection prevention standards, participate in investigations of medical equipment-related incidents, and support accreditation and audit processes
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Diploma in Biomedical Engineering.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a hospital setting.
- Hands-on experience with critical care and life-support equipment (ICU, HDU, Theatre, Renal).
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of:
- Medical device troubleshooting and repair
- Preventive maintenance systems
- Calibration and quality assurance processes
- Computer Literacy
Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure in critical environments
- High level of integrity and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Registration with relevant professional bodies (e.g., AMEK or equivalent)
- Training/certification from OEMs for critical care equipment
- Experience in private or tertiary-level hospitals
