ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT – ACC ASST -26-1 (1 position)
This position will be reporting to the Senior Accountant in the Finance Department.
Job Purpose:
To contribute to strategic and responsible finances management by providing professional accounting to ensure timely, dependable, and accurate information for decision making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Invoicing, receipting and mailing of student statements.
- Invoicing, receipting and mailing other customer statements
- Bank reconciliations for all banks and ensuring approvals by the 10th of the month for the previous month
- Attend to student fees issues and other matters by other stakeholders.
- Attend to student registration and exam clearance. Ensure adherence to laid down policies and procedures.
- Attend to graduation clearance matters and reconcile and prepare for caution fee and credit balance refunds.
- Update batch receipts for student scholarships once received.
- Ensure timely banking of cheques received in the cash office
- Monitor cash imprests paid out to ensure compliance with finance policy and recommend remedial actions to the finance manager.
- Monitor accounts receivable and ensure that they are settled within the agreed timelines
- Prepare the necessary journals entries for approval and posting.
- Obtain and file all bank statements
- Timely response to student queries through emails and phone calls
- Attend to queries by student donors for students who are on scholarships on a timely basis.
- Maintain a professional and customer friendly approach in dealing with students and other stakeholders in the course of your work.
- Any other duties may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor in furtherance of the University objectives.
Requirements: Qualifications and Experience
- Hold a degree in Business with Accounting option with at least one year experience in a similar position.
- CPA qualifications at at least the intermediate level.
- Excellent grasp of computer applications, especially Excel.
- Experience working with an accounting system.
- Versatile and willing to take up any assignments within the department when necessary.
- Good communication skill and interpersonal relationships.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Person of high integrity and good morals in line with the Christian Values of the university.
- A committed born-again evangelical Christian.
