JOB PURPOSE
The job holder is responsible for executing underwriting initiatives to deliver profitability and sustainable growth. The role ensures thorough evaluation of risks to support prudent underwriting, issuance of certificates, policy documents, debits, and endorsements in line with the company’s underwriting policy. The position enforces compliance with internal company policies and underwriting controls while maintaining excellent customer service.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Underwriting Roles
- Establish proper and adequate documentation of risks and ensure timely issuance of certificates, debits, policy documents, and endorsements.
- Ensure all underwriting instructions are approved in line with company policy before debiting.
- Adhere to the set renewal process to achieve the desired retention rate.
- Issue and revise quotes to intermediaries within recommended guidelines and follow up to ensure business closure.
- Reconcile client accounts on a monthly basis to reflect the business booked status.
- Enforce the company’s credit policy to ensure 100% compliance.
- Provide advisory services to the claims department on applicable excesses, deductibles, and clauses in the event of a claim.
- Appoint property and vehicle valuers where necessary.
- Issue new motor business policy documents and renewal schedules.
- Monitor approval and dispatch of renewal and extra endorsement schedules.
2. Customer Service Roles
- Ensure 100% compliance with Turnaround Time (TAT) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Monitor client queries and ensure they are addressed, with correct quotations provided within set timelines and authority levels.
- Follow up on premium collection from clients and ensure premiums are debited within the month.
- Prepare and follow up on premium refunds in cases of overpayment or cancellation.
- Conduct client visits with intermediaries, when required, for technical support and product presentations.
3. Other Duties
- Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time.

- Reporting to: Senior Underwriter

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Academic Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business, or Economics from a recognized university
Professional Qualifications
- Diploma in Insurance
Experience
- One (1) year experience in health insurance
- One (1) year of relevant working experience
