About the Role
The International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) seeks to recruit a Business Support Officer II (Software and Cloud Solutions Architect) under the Integrated Data & Analytics Platform.
This nationally recruited position is tenable in Nairobi at the icipe Duduville campus. The contract is for two (2) years, renewable subject to continued position needs, funding availability, and performance. A competitive compensation package will be offered to the successful candidate.
The Software and Cloud Solutions Architect will develop scalable and cost-effective architectural solutions for cloud-managed services to support the Digital Earth Africa Program. The role involves engineering efficient software systems and building elastic, interoperable cloud solutions.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and maintain database systems and applications ensuring secure, consistent, and accurate data management.
- Re-engineer deployed systems and systems under implementation.
- Develop web applications using JavaScript (Node/React/Terria) and Python or other relevant programming languages.
- Automate CI/CD pipelines (preferably on AWS) to deploy scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions.
- Implement and manage cloud infrastructure (IaC, IaaS) to ensure high performance, scalability, and security (preferably on AWS).
- Design, deploy, manage, and maintain production-grade Kubernetes clusters.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (BSc/BA) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field from a recognized university.
- At least 2 years’ relevant work experience.
- Experience in an international/regional research organization is an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of JavaScript (Node/React/Terria) and Python or other programming languages.
- Sound understanding of operating systems (Linux, Solaris, Windows) and database management systems (Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL DBs).
- Good understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies.
- Knowledge of AWS cloud-managed services, IT security, data infrastructure, governance, and user-centred design practices.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
