The position
The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu (AKHK) is an Institution of the Aga Khan Health Service, Kenya, which is an Agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. The Hospital is part of a network of health facilities, which includes Hospitals and Outreach Health Facilities across East Africa. The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu is in an exciting growth phase and has attained acknowledgment of its quality by achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification, ISO 15189:2022 accreditation for laboratory services, Safe Care level 5 accreditation and is at advanced stage of attaining Joint Commission International Accreditation. AKHK has Outreach Health Services at Kisii, Kakamega, Kitale, Bungoma, Kericho, Kibuye-Kisumu, West End- Kisumu, Busia, Homa – Bay, Migori, Bomet, Eldoret, Kimilili, Nyamira, Kabarnet and an upcoming Medical Centre in Lodwar.
COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER (LOCUM)
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering effective internal and external communication that strengthens the hospital’s image, supports patient engagement, and promotes service awareness. This role involves creating compelling content, managing digital and social media platforms, designing visual materials, and upholding brand consistency across all communication channels.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement communication strategies to promote hospital services.
- Design marketing and patient education materials such as brochures, posters, flyers, and banners presentations, and social media content.
- Create visual content (graphics, short videos, animations) for use in both digital and print platforms.
- Build and maintain media relations and act as a liaison with external communication partners when needed.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative departments to gather stories, updates, and content needs.
- Write press releases, newsletters, and feature articles to highlight hospital milestones and initiatives.
- Coordinate media coverage and respond to media inquiries in collaboration with the manager.
- Maintain brand consistency across all internal and external communications.
- Ensure consistent and professional use of the company’s identity (logos, taglines, colors, tone).
- Work closely with other departments to integrate brand values into internal programs and materials (e.g., internal signage).
- Manage and update the hospital’s website with current and accurate content.
- Monitor digital performance using analytics tools and adjust content strategies to enhance engagement
The requirements
- Degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, New Media or Public Relations
- 3 years’ proven working experience in social media marketing or in digital media
- Proof of expertise in graphic design, video and photo editing.
- Excellent consulting, writing, editing (photo/video/text), presentation and communication skills
- Demonstrable social networking experience and social analytics tools knowledge
