Job Summary

This position is required to support data collection and data management activities for PROTECT (PReparing for Optimal Phase III/IV maTErnal Group B StreptococCal vaccine Trials in Kenya, Uganda, Malawi and Mozambique) study. He / She will report to the Study Coordinator, or delegate.
He / She will support data collection activities, specifically working closely with health facility teams to ensure smooth implementation of study objectives. The role will focus on clinical data collection and patient engagement, ensuring timely and accurate documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. The role will also involve collecting data and obtaining consent from eligible participants for Work Package 3 (WP3) participants.

He / She will be required to comply with stipulated guidelines on all study activities. He/She will be required to be sensitive and considerate throughout the encounter with participants, their families and other health facility staff and at all times to display a professional attitude.
The position is based at Mariakani Sub County Hospital. The role may include some local travel within public health facilities in Kaloleni, Malindi and Rabai sub counties in Kilifi County. This role may require working during weekends and public holidays.

Terms of Reference
The consultant shall be responsible for the following. 

  • Ensure informed consent is obtained appropriately and ethically from all eligible participants.
  • Collect high-quality clinical and research data collection in compliance with study protocols and ethical guidelines.
  • Document adverse outcomes, compile patient referral reports, and maintain accurate participant records.
  • Work with hospital staff to facilitate accurate and timely sample collection and data capture.
  • Act as a liaison between the study team and health facility staff to facilitate smooth study operations.
  • Ensure accuracy of data and address data queries in a timely manner.
  • Perform any additional tasks assigned by the Principal Investigator or their delegate, including supporting other projects within the Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health.
     

Relevant Experience.

  • Diploma in Kenya Registered Nurse Midwife or Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse or equivalent
  • Valid Practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya 
  • Good written and verbal skills in English and Kiswahili
  • Experience working at the maternity unit, antenatal care unit or child health units at hospital or health Centre level
  • At least 1 year experience in clinical research at community or health facility level with direct experience with data collection onto both paper and mobile data collection tools
  • Experience in collecting and handling biological samples.
  • Experience working at public health care facilities
  • Experience working at a health facility using electronic medical records
  • Experience in clinical trials will be an added advantage
  • High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate patient records.
