Scope of Work
The hydrogeological investigations are expected to cover all three proposed sites, assessing the
groundwater resources, including quantity, quality, and movement, to identify optimal borehole
locations and predict their optimal yields and sustainability. It should include reviewing existing data,
conducting fieldwork, analyzing data, and reporting findings to guide sustainable water
management.
The specific terms of reference include but are not limited to:
- Characterizing the hydrogeological setting (geology, hydrogeology, and aquifer properties).
- Assessing groundwater levels, flow patterns, and recharge rates.
- Evaluating groundwater quality (chemical and bacteriological analysis).
- Identifying potential drilling sites for each of the proposed boreholes.
- Developing recommendations for sustainable groundwater management.
- Assessing the impact of existing and planned water abstraction on groundwater resources.
Key Qualifications and Experience
- The individual Consultant must demonstrate experience and expertise as follows
- Registered and Licensed as a Hydrogeologist and an accredited groundwater professional consultant by the relevant authorities/accrediting bodies (e.g Ministry of Water and GSK)
- Demonstrated ability to use and interpret a variety of geophysical instruments is required.
- Knowledge of the socio-economic context of Turkana County and familiarity with local communities.
- Familiarity with fieldwork, data collection, and analysis related to local communities, including most marginalized adolescent girls, women (AGW) as well as caregivers of children under 5.
- Demonstrate ability to design and conduct assessments, surveys, and interviews to gather relevant information.
- A deep understanding and respect for diverse cultures and indigenous communities, with intersecting identities in, remote or resettlement settings.
- Ability to engage with local communities, stakeholders, and experts to gather information and share results in a culturally sensitive manner.
Minimum Criteria
- Licensed Hydrogeologist and accredited groundwater professional consultant by the relevant authorities/accrediting bodies (e.g Ministry of Water and GSK)
The consultant should provide the following:
- A technical proposal detailing understanding of the task, proposed methodologies of the consultancy, expected activities and deliverables (Must be submitted in PDF format).
- Financial proposal submitted in KES and not any other currency. The financial proposal should be inclusive of costs for secondary data, equipment hire if applicable, personnel, experts, subsistence, meals, accommodation, and transportation/logistics during fieldwork.
- A detailed work plan for the activity to be carried out
- Proof of Registration/licensing by the relevant authorities/accrediting (Please note that ADRA reserves the right to confirm the applicant’s registration status with the Authorities.)
Professional Qualification
- Possessing the desired professional qualification with relevant academic qualifications and practical experience in conducting hydrogeological investigation/assessment and other related assignments
Experience
- Demonstrated experience undertaking similar projects in similar contexts, including familiarity with the socio-cultural and socio- economic context of the local communities in Turkana County.
- Experience working with diverse cultures and local communities in indigenous settings.
