Genset Operator – General Support

Overall purpose of the role:

The Generator Operator/Technician is responsible for running, monitoring, and maintaining all DRC generators, both at the DMO and at field level locations. The role ensures that generators operate efficiently, safely, and reliably to provide continuous power for all DRC activities. The staff will also perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor to support operations.

Main Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain generators safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect the generator before and after use and report any faults or damages to the supervisor.
  • Troubleshoot and repair minor generator problems (both electrical and mechanical).
  • Ensure the generator at the Hagadera Digital Centre (ROU generator) is always in good working condition.
  • Request fuel and spare parts on time through the Supply Chain Officer or UNHCR.
  • Keep enough fuel and always service materials available.
  • Record daily generator usage, fuel consumption, and maintenance in the generator logbook.
  • Follow the set generator operating schedule for switching on and off.
  • Make sure all safety measures are in place, including working fire extinguishers and stocked first aid kits.
  • Maintain cleanliness around the generator area and store tools properly.
  • Assist with simple electrical wiring, connections, and installations when required.
  • Support other team members and carry out any other duties assigned by the Logistics Officer or Supervisor.

Experience and technical competencies:

  • At least 1–2 years of experience working with generators or electrical/mechanical systems.
  • Good understanding of generator operation, maintenance, and safety.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical wiring and installations.
  • Basic mechanical repair and maintenance skills.
  • Ability to identify and solve minor faults quickly.
  • Good record-keeping and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work responsibly and follow safety procedures.

Education and personal competencies:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Installation, Mechanical Engineering, or related field from a recognized TVET institution.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and maintenance procedures.
  • Honest, reliable, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Recommendation letter from an NGO or UN agency will be an added advantage.
  • Practical and hands on experience in genset handling and maintenance.

Conditions:  

Contract duration: 4 months contract with possibility of extension, subject to funding and performance. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council terms of employment for National staff.
