Overview
To coordinate and strengthen capacity development activities under the IKI project by assessing, designing, and supporting implementation of training and institutional strengthening interventions across partner countries to enhance native tree seed (NTS) systems.
Duties and responsibilities
Key Technical Responsibilities:
- Coordinate country-level capacity needs assessments (working closely with the project team) to identify technical and institutional gaps in Native Tree Seed (NTS) systems in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Burkina Faso, specifically covering:
- Tree seed facilities and equipment
- Tree seed testing and storage
- Tree seed source description
- Tree seed collection
- Training on BSO establishment and management
- Review existing training needs assessments and prior trainings conducted under other Theme projects in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Rwanda to identify lessons, overlaps, and gaps.
- Develop training materials for technical experts to address priority capacity gaps identified through the NTS capacity needs assessments.
- Support and coordinate delivery of technical trainings to address identified skills gaps within NTS systems.
- Support training related to facility and institutional improvements to strengthen NTS seed supply systems.
- Contribute to the development of curriculum and training materials for Training of Trainers (ToT) courses on GESI, landscape restoration, and rural engagement.
- Develop and document an overall workflow and governance efficiency assessment for NTS-related institutional processes.
- Develop and facilitate stakeholder cross-learning events in different delivery channels
- Conduct training impact evaluation assessments
- Coordinate capacity and training facilitation use of the digital learning campus in collaborations with CDE unit
- Support communication and media coverage events on training and capacity development actions.
Managerial/Coordination Responsibilities:
- Contribute to stakeholder engagement activities within tree seed system sectoral assessments and enabling institutional and policy processes.
- Contribute to establishment and strengthening of networking platforms and communities of practice among project partners and relevant national and regional institutions.
- Coordinate workshops and stakeholder engagement meetings for knowledge product dissemination.
- Coordinate cross-cutting activities with BGCI contributing to Outputs IV.2 and IV.3.
- Facilitate collaboration between country teams, technical experts, and institutional partners.
Other Responsibilities:
- Identify and mitigate potential risks within the work area.
- Take reasonable care of own occupational health and safety and that of others, in accordance with CIFOR-ICRAF’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy and comply with all applicable statutory health and safety requirements of relevant host countries.
- Participate in Theme Trees/Centre projects, events, and stakeholder engagements as required.
- Undertake any other duties assigned by the Supervisor consistent with the scope and level of the role.
Requirements
- MSc specializing in Capacity Building and Stakeholder Engagements.
- Minimum five (5) years’ professional experience in capacity development and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience working within international organizations is preferred.
- Strong facilitation, coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills
