Internship Programme 2026

OBJECTIVE

The Trade and Development Bank Group (TDB Group) is an innovative African multilateral development finance group with world-class governance and strong development impact through financing projects, infrastructure, and trade mainly in its member states. The TDB Group operating region includes 26 African sovereign states. The Group plays a key role in supporting trade growth and in attracting capital to the African continent by positioning itself as a financial bridge within the continent.

TDB Group actively seeks diversity in the various engagement opportunities available in its Member States by providing an Internship Program for students from member states in 2026. The internship programme aims to provide students with short-term structured learning opportunities through practical work assignments designed to complement their studies and/or improve their employability. It also provides an opportunity to tap into new ideas and perspectives that may support the Group in meeting its organizational objectives.

For the student, the internship program offers an opportunity to gain practical work experience in their specific field of study or career aspirations. Students will be exposed to in-depth knowledge of the Development Finance Institution (DFI) sector and gain an understanding of the TDB Group’s vision, mission, and scope of activities. Interns will be equipped with skills necessary to perform in the labour market, thereby increasing employability. However, participation in the internship program does not guarantee employment at TDB Group.

DURATION

Internship assignments may vary in length depending on the availability and academic requirements of the intern, as well as the Group’s needs. The internship duration will range from one (1) month to three (3) months. Under exceptional circumstances, the internship period may be extended to a maximum of six (6) months.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility requirements for the internship program are as follows:

  • Candidates must be aged between eighteen (18) and thirty (30) years at the commencement of the internship.
  • Candidates should preferably be nationals of TDB Group member states or countries, or from the diaspora originally from TDB Group member states or countries.
  • Candidates must have the right to reside and/or work in the internship location for the full duration of the internship. TDB Group will not assist with visa applications but will provide, where necessary, documentary evidence required for the visa application process.
  • Candidates must provide proof of enrollment in a recognized public university or institution of learning.
  • Candidates must apply for an internship within one year of obtaining a degree or while enrolled in an undergraduate program, ideally having completed two (2) years of full-time study toward the completion of a bachelor’s degree.

AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION

Preferred areas of specialization include Finance, Commerce, Risk Management, Information Technology, Computer Science, and other operational specializations relevant to the banking industry. Enrollment in professional certification programs such as CFA or CPA is an added advantage.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Internship candidates should demonstrate the following skills and competencies:

  1. Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral, in English and French. Working knowledge of Arabic or Portuguese is an added advantage.
  2. Commitment and passion for African development.

LOCATION

Interns may be based at any of the TDB Group’s regional offices in Addis Ababa, Bujumbura, Harare, Kinshasa, Nairobi, and Mauritius.

INSURANCE

Interns are not eligible for TDB Group medical and life/accident insurance coverage. As a condition of acceptance, candidates must provide proof of valid medical and life/accident insurance covering the entire duration of the internship.

LEGAL STATUS

Interns are not employees of TDB Group and may not represent the Group in any official capacity. Interns may not be used as replacements for staff or recruited against open vacancies during the internship period.
