JOB PURPOSE
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
BBC News unites Network News, English Regions, and Global News to serve diverse audiences across platforms. BBC News Content provides high-quality reports, images, and audio to programmes worldwide, ensuring editorial excellence and value. Amid rising competition, BBC News leads in newsgathering, editorial coverage, and digital innovation. We seek a journalist to join our Tigrinya service team in Nairobi team on a permanent contract.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- To work with other Journalists to create contents for a variety of video, audio broadcast and digital media platforms, and information technology to research, write and deliver outputs in the appropriate medium in Tigrinya, to the highest professional standards in multiple formats including text, audio and video.
- Interview, write, proofread and sometimes maybe required to present content on radio or online. This might be live or recorded.
- Required to interview and edit audio, produce radio programmes and other digital content for BBC Tigrinya Service’s digital output that can be published on the website, in social media, radio and on any other platforms.
- Use knowledge of the digital media market to produce interesting news content and analysis for our website and social media platforms.
- To work across all BBC Tigrinya platforms to ensure the highest quality content is created for our audiences and conforms to BBC Values and editorial standards.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Proficiency in both Tigrinya and English, with strong writing skills in Tigrinya.
- Ability to write creatively and engagingly in Tigrinya.
- Adept at adapting, producing, and translating content for multimedia platforms with clarity, accuracy, and style.
- Excellent knowledge of Eritrean and Ethiopian’s current affairs, Horn of Africa and interest in international affairs.
- An in-depth understanding of history, politics, social issues and culture of Eritrea and Ethiopian communities in east Africa and the Diaspora.
