About the Role
The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Policy Advisor to provide technical support across different projects in policy and advocacy components ensuring that the interventions led by GAIN Kenya and by its different partners are achieving set policy milestones.
The Policy Advisor will also provide support to the Deputy Country Director in strengthening the food and nutrition influencing agenda for GAIN in Kenya amongst key actors – Government, donors, the UN, civil society including peer NGOs, the private sector and consumers. The position holder will manage and support high level stakeholder relationships with businesses, government, donors, UN and civil society.
This role will be offered on a one (1) year fixed term contract, subject to availability of funding and will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Key Responsibilities include
- Lead the provision of technical policy support through conducting data-based analyses to predict how policies will impact food and nutrition outcomes.
- Establish and strengthen strategic partnerships with technical specialists in government and non-government organizations to forge consensus on what needs to be done on a technical level to accelerate nutrition outcomes.
- Lead on external engagement with key stakeholders in government, private sector, UN, donors and civil society including academia, media, and other development practitioners; to improve support for GAIN’s mission and increase resources allocated to nutrition in Kenya.
- Synthesize and disseminate knowledge and evidence from GAIN Kenya programmes that can help drive the agenda for nutritious and safe food in Kenya.
- Compile insights from the analyses and existing literature into simple yet nuanced narratives, through contextualized briefing documents.
- Create opportunities to spread key messages arising from GAIN Kenya country programming through e.g. media, social media, and positioning events.
About you
- We are looking for a strategic, results-driven policy professional with a strong track record in policy and budget advocacy, strategic planning, and project management. The ideal candidate should be an experienced relationship builder and influencer, comfortable engaging with senior government officials, private sector leaders, donors, and civil society to drive change in Kenya’s food and nutrition landscape.
- The post holder should have experience leading advocacy campaigns related to nutrition, food systems or other public interest issues. You should have strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple moving parts combined with analytical skills in food and nutrition related policy analysis, including for example political economy analysis, budget analysis.
- An education background with a degree or recognized international accreditation in public policy, economics, management or related field is required. Masters’ level would be an added advantage.
