Research Officer

To strengthen our team, we are seeking to fill the following position:

Position: Research Officer

Reporting to: Head of Research

Purpose

To glorify God by developing and participating in hospital-wide research.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of Quality Improvement (QI) projects related to:
    • Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
    • Hand hygiene
    • Blood culture contamination
    • Infectious disease documentation
  • Coach clinical, IPC, AMS, and laboratory teams on quality improvement methods and support intervention planning, implementation, and outcome measurement
  • Facilitate collaborative learning sessions, workshops, and continuous improvement activities
  • Document and report on quality improvement progress, lessons learned, and recommendations
  • Collect and analyze data on antimicrobial use and resistance patterns
  • Support the development and revision of hospital antibiograms and local treatment guidelines
  • Provide feedback and promote rational antibiotic use through clinical engagement and education
  • Collect clinical and laboratory data from patient records using standardized tools
  • Conduct routine data validation, cleaning, and quality control checks

Qualifications, Experience, Competencies and Attributes

  • Degree or Diploma in a health-related field (e.g., Nursing, Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy, etc.)
  • Experience with Quality Improvement, Infection Prevention and Control, Antimicrobial Resistance, or healthcare surveillance preferred
  • Strong skills in data collection, analysis, and electronic data entry systems (e.g., RedCap)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic statistical tools
  • Strong communication, teamwork, training, and organizational abilities
