Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with Lead physician, the supervisor will develop, implement, and evaluate policies, procedures, and protocols for safe and effective patient care.
- Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation for the unit.
- Coordinate the management of patients who are to undergo BMT from the point of identification of need for transplant to post transplant care
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure well-coordinated patient care.
- Coordinate apheresis and laboratory teams involved in stem cell harvesting of patients and donors and patient safety and infection control.
- Coordinate and ensure strict adherence to infection control practices in the unit.
- Together with the lead physician, develop key performance indicators (KPIs) that will demonstrate excellent care of BMT patients
- Ensure the unit is well resourced with adequate staffing and required equipment.
- Comply with regulatory, accreditation and other safety guidelines for the unit
- Ensure that nursing staff in Bone Marrow unit remain up to date with knowledge and skill by maintaining continuous learning.
- Oversee infection prevention and control practices, central line management, and chemotherapy/biotherapy administration.
- Ensures a system is in place to monitor nurses’ clinical knowledge, skills, and competencies
- Takes lead in unit based Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) projects, Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC), and ensures participation by nurses.
- Ensure program-based client satisfaction surveys is carried out, monitor trends of incidents/complaints and takes appropriate action.
Requirements:
- Registered Nurse (KRN/M; KRCHN) with a BSc-Nursing degree
- Current licensure with the Kenya Nursing Council
- Certification in BLS
- Demonstrate experience or training in Bone Marrow Transplantation services
- Demonstrate Leadership and management skills
- Demonstrates current knowledge in general nursing.
