Job Description
Job Purpose
The Accounts Intern will support the Finance Department in carrying out day-to-day accounting and financial administration activities. The role provides practical exposure to accounting processes, financial record management, reconciliations, and reporting while enabling the intern to develop professional skills in a dynamic work environment.
Job Description
Financial Records Management
- Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
- Organize, file, and archive financial documents in both physical and electronic formats.
- Ensure supporting documentation is complete and properly referenced.
Accounts Payable Support
- Assist in verifying supplier invoices and supporting documents.
- Prepare payment vouchers for review and approval.
- Update supplier payment records and maintain filing systems.
Accounts Receivable Support
- Assist in recording customer receipts and maintaining debtor records.
- Support follow-up on outstanding customer balances where required.
- Help reconcile customer accounts.
Cash and Bank Transactions
- Assist in recording daily cash and bank transactions.
- Support bank reconciliations by matching transactions and identifying variances.
- Help maintain accurate cashbook records.
Data Entry and Accounting Systems
- Capture financial transactions accurately into the accounting system.
- Update financial databases and spreadsheets.
- Verify the accuracy of entered data and report discrepancies.
Financial Reporting Support
- Assist in preparing schedules and reports required for monthly financial reporting.
- Compile supporting documentation for financial analysis.
- Support preparation of statutory reports where applicable.
Audit and Compliance
- Assist in preparing documents required for internal and external audits.
- Ensure financial records comply with company policies and accounting procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information.
Administrative Support
- Assist with general finance office administration.
- Receive and distribute finance-related documents.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field (ongoing or recently completed).
- CPA Part I or II is an added advantage.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with accounting software is an added advantage.
