Pharmaceutical Technologist at Valley Hospital

Job Description

The Pharmaceutical Technologist will be responsible for accurately dispensing prescriptions, providing appropriate medication counselling, supporting pharmaceutical inventory management, and ensuring compliance with professional, regulatory, and hospital standards. The role will work closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to promote safe and effective medication use and quality patient care.

Key Competencies

• Excellent accuracy and attention to detail in prescription interpretation and dispensing.
• Strong patient counselling and communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain medication use, dosage, precautions, potential side effects, and storage requirements.
• Good knowledge of pharmaceutical inventory management, including stock rotation, stock audits, and monitoring of low-stock and short-expiry medicines.
• Strong understanding of pharmaceutical regulations, professional standards, and patient safety requirements.
• Ability to identify and report medication errors and adverse drug reactions in accordance with pharmacovigilance protocols.
• Ability to work effectively with doctors, nurses, and other multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Commitment to confidentiality, ethical practice, and continuous professional development.
• Proficiency in the use of relevant software and IT systems.

Minimum Qualifications

• Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology.
• Current membership with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
• Minimum three (3) years’ relevant experience in a healthcare facility of comparable size.
