Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Kenya

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Kenya is an independent constitutional commission established under Article 171 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 and operationalized through the Judicial Service Act, 2011. The Commission is mandated to promote and safeguard the independence, accountability, and effectiveness of the Judiciary while ensuring the efficient administration of justice throughout Kenya. JSC is responsible for recruiting and recommending judges for appointment, appointing judicial officers and Judiciary staff, handling disciplinary matters, reviewing terms and conditions of service, and facilitating continuous judicial education and institutional reforms. The Commission also oversees merit-based recruitment, integrity, professionalism, and good governance within Kenya’s Judiciary. Through its Secretariat headquartered in Nairobi, JSC supports the delivery of justice by managing human resources, finance, ICT, legal services, public affairs, procurement, monitoring and evaluation, and administrative functions.
