As part of its continued growth, Mwananchi Credit is seeking an experienced and strategic professional to join its leadership team as the Head of Collection & Recovery.

Job Overview

The Head of Collection & Recovery will provide strategic leadership for the organization’s collections and recovery function. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing effective recovery strategies, strengthening governance frameworks, ensuring regulatory compliance, optimizing collections operations, and leading high-performing teams to maximize portfolio performance while maintaining excellent customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement collection and recovery strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Provide leadership in governance, risk management, and policy implementation within the collections function.
  • Oversee end-to-end collections operations to improve portfolio quality and recovery rates.
  • Manage recovery processes, including legal recovery initiatives where necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Promote fair customer treatment throughout the collections and recovery process.
  • Utilize analytics and performance data to improve operational efficiency and decision-making.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop collection and recovery teams to achieve business targets.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Commerce, Economics, Law, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
  • Professional qualifications such as CPA (K), ACCA, CCP, or a recognized Credit Management certification.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in banking or microfinance operations.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in senior management.
  • Strong expertise in collections, recoveries, credit management, legal recovery, and strategic leadership.
