Job Description

About The Role:

We are looking for a commercially driven Sales Representative to grow adoption of Network’s payment solutions across the Kenyan market. You will identify high-potential merchants, understand how they accept payments today, and position the right payment solution to help them convert more customers and scale confidently. This is an end-to-end sales role: from prospecting and solution discovery through commercial negotiation, merchant onboarding, activation and early-life relationship management.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Build and convert a high-quality sales pipeline:

  • Prospect, qualify and win new merchants through targeted outbound activity, referrals, partnerships, market events and digital lead sources.
  • Build territory and sector plans that prioritize attractive online-payment opportunities, including retail, travel, hospitality, services, education, digital platforms and other high-growth merchant segments.
  • Run structured discovery conversations to understand each merchant’s business model, checkout journey, payment volumes, customer base, operational constraints and growth ambitions.
  • Maintain disciplined pipeline hygiene in the CRM, with clear next steps, realistic close dates and accurate sales forecasts.

Sell consultatively and shape the right solution:

  • Present Network’s payment capabilities in clear commercial language, linking features to conversion, reach, customer experience, operational efficiency and revenue growth.
  • Develop compelling proposals and business cases covering the recommended solution, commercial structure, implementation needs and expected merchant value.
  • Lead pricing and commercial negotiations within approved parameters, balancing competitiveness, merchant value, risk and sustainable revenue.
  • Coordinate demonstrations and solution discussions with Product, Technology, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Finance and other specialist teams where required.

Own the merchant journey from agreement to activation:

  • Guide merchants through application, KYC and due-diligence requirements, ensuring submissions are complete, accurate and progressed promptly.
  • Partner with implementation and technical teams to coordinate integration, testing, readiness and go-live activities.
  • Maintain clear communication throughout onboarding, resolve blockers quickly and set realistic expectations on dependencies and timelines.
  • Follow through after go-live to support activation, first transactions and a smooth handover into the appropriate relationship-management model.

Grow revenue and market intelligence:

  • Deliver agreed sales, revenue, activation and payment-volume goals, with consistent focus on quality merchants that can transact and grow.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen merchant value through relevant cross-sell and upsell conversations.
  • Monitor competitor activity, merchant feedback, sector trends and market needs; convert insights into practical recommendations for Sales, Product and Marketing.
  • Represent the company professionally at client meetings, roadshows, conferences, exhibitions and partner events.

Qualifications

Key Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Commerce, Finance, Technology or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of successful B2B sales or business-development experience, ideally in payments, fintech, banking, e-commerce, SaaS or merchant services.
  • A demonstrable record of prospecting, building pipeline and closing new business against individual commercial targets.
  • Experience managing a consultative sales cycle involving discovery, proposal development, negotiation, onboarding and stakeholder coordination.
  • Working knowledge of digital commerce and online payment journeys, including how merchants accept card, mobile and alternative payment methods.
  • Confidence using a CRM to manage opportunities, activities, forecasts and reporting.
  • Strong written and spoken English; working proficiency in Swahili.
  • Exposure to merchant onboarding, KYC/AML requirements, pricing concepts and cross-functional implementation processes.
  • An established network across Kenyan e-commerce merchants, digital businesses, platforms or relevant commercial ecosystems.
