Commercial Tea Buyer at Kericho Gold Tea

Job Description

We are looking for a commercially astute and experienced Tea Buyer with a strong tea tasting background to join our team. The ideal candidate must combine excellent tea tasting and blending skills with strong commercial judgment, market awareness, and the ability to make profitable buying decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Source and purchase teas competitively through the Mombasa tea auction and private negotiations.
• Evaluate tea quality through professional tasting, grading, and assessment.
• Identify buying opportunities based on market trends, quality, pricing, and customer requirements.
• Develop cost-effective blends while maintaining consistent quality.
• Monitor auction trends, supply-demand dynamics, and international tea prices.
• Negotiate effectively with producers, brokers, and suppliers.
• Manage buying decisions with a strong focus on margins, inventory, and profitability.
• Work closely with sales and export teams to meet international customer requirements.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

• Proven experience in tea buying, tasting, and blending, preferably involving Kenyan and other East African teas.
• Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
• Excellent knowledge of CT tea grades, quality characteristics, and auction dynamics.
• Ability to balance quality, cost, and profitability.
• Analytical, decisive, and results-oriented.
• Established relationships within the tea trade would be an advantage.
