About The Role
The Maa Trust is seeking a skilled and versatile Leather Artisan to support the production of high-quality leather products integrated with traditional Maasai beadwork. The successful candidate will be responsible for cutting, stitching, assembling, and finishing leather products while ensuring durability, quality craftsmanship, and consistency in production.
The role offers an opportunity to contribute to product development and support efficient production processes within the Maa Bead-Work initiative.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Cut, shape, and prepare leather materials for production.
- Carry out both hand stitching and machine stitching processes.
- Assemble bags, belts, wallets, and other leather accessories.
- Integrate traditional Maasai beadwork into leather products.
- Conduct finishing processes including burnishing, polishing, and trimming.
- Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards.
- Support product development through prototyping and design improvements.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, safe working environment.
Academic and Professional Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Leatherwork, Leather Technology, Fashion Design, or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ practical experience in leather product manufacturing and assembly.
- Strong skills in leather cutting, shaping, hand stitching, machine stitching, and finishing.
- Experience producing bags, belts, wallets, and other leather accessories.
- Ability to work with different types of leather and production materials.
- Knowledge of leather production tools and equipment.
- Experience integrating beadwork into leather products will be an added advantage.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
